Tom Holland and Zendaya on Love and Loss in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'
"The relationship between Peter and May throughout these films is truly integral to the heart and soul of the story."
Peter Parker faces one of his biggest challenges in Spider-Man: No Way Home - saying goodbye to the people he's always been near and dear to him, and not necessarily following. option.
With his true identity known to the world, Peter asks Doctor Strange to cast a spell to make people forget he is Spider-Man, and then hopes his best friend, Ned, and his girlfriend. you, MJ, will be admitted to college. It sounds like an easy enough quest, but after Peter breaks the spell while it's being cast, things go horribly wrong. Before long, villains from other Multiverses entered the fray, bringing with them a path of destruction that pushed Peter to his limits.
Thankfully, Peter doesn't have to go through this alone as he has his friends and Aunt May Parker, by his side throughout it all. When Peter began to feel as though he was defeated and he could not simply continue with the task at hand, those closest to the web-slinger reminded him that “With great power... must have a great responsibility”.
Calling this a role reversal, star Tom Holland commented that it was MJ who really took a more positive view of things as the events of the film unfolded. Zendaya agrees, noting, “Peter helps melt MJ a bit, and breaks the shell she has to build to protect herself from the world. She didn't have many people she felt she could trust and rely on, and Peter was now one of those people. And she doesn't want to lose him.”
Through it all, MJ is there to “pick up the pieces and constantly remind him who he is, and what he cares about.”
“She doesn't want to lose the person who truly has allowed her to feel more and more who she is, and to believe in who she is more and more, and to love her precisely for all of her quirks and quirks. what makes her who she is. Because he's been through so much, she now realizes his positivity that maybe he's losing a bit. He has a more negative view of nihilism.”
However, no matter how hard they tried to stop each other, in the end, they still lost each other. Knowing that the only way to stop the Multiverse from breaking again is to wipe everyone's minds about
"Peter Parker is Spider-Man," Peter and MJ had to say goodbye, though Zendaya added, "they didn't want to."
Another goodbye Peter had to say was to May. Unfortunately, after the Green Goblin destroyed much of Happy Hogan's apartment, May was caught in the fire and succumbed to her injuries. It's a heartbreaking scene because May seems okay, but before she's out the door, she collapses in the rubble.
Holland explains: “The relationship between Peter and May throughout these films is truly an integral part of the heart and soul of the story. “This scene seemed to appear out of the blue, like no one expected this to happen. It's going to be really, really hard for people [watching] the movie. "
“[May’s] is a great role model,” Zendaya continued. “She raised a lovely young man, and she accomplished the job herself. She doesn't get the credit she deserves.”
Noting that it's common for Spider-Man to have a male character guide him through life - including Tony Stark and Quentin Beck, the former - Zendaya explains, "It's important to acknowledge May in the way that everyone Everyone's like, 'Oh, he always has to have a mentor, 'All these fatherly characters and all this. But May raised him. Happy May! ”
“She's an incredible role model, thanks to May,” Holland jumped in.
While the events of the film can be hard to swallow, Holland still won't "change a single moment of it".
“Honestly, being Spider-Man changed my life. Unbelievable. The roller coaster ride from the moment I went to the moment we got off was amazing. This movie is truly a celebration of three generations of cinema. I'm so happy to be at the helm and to be the captain of this ship, it's amazing. Unbelievable. Honestly, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. "
